Westport TD Michael Ring has today welcomed the news that Ms Gina Heraty, who is originally from Liscarney, Westport, is safe and well in Haiti.
“This news is a welcome relief for her family, relatives and her many friends in Westport and the surrounding areas. I am sure her family had a worrying time following the earthquake.
“It is great news that Gina is safe and well. Gina should be complimented on the wonderful work that she does in Haiti. The devastation in Haiti this week will have a terrible effect on that country.”
Gina has worked with orphaned children on a voluntary basis in Haiti for many years.
“Ireland, as a country, should try and help the people in Haiti in every possible way, with support both as a nation and individually to help them come to terms with the devastation of their country in the past few days,” concluded Deputy Ring.
