Farm waste management payments to start this week – Flynn

The second tranche of grant payments of 40 per cent under the Farm Waste Management Scheme are being issued this week, according to Mayo Fianna Fáil TD Beverley Flynn.

The news was confirmed to her by her colleague the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Brendan Smith TD.

Welcoming the news Deputy Flynn said: “I know that this payment will come as a welcome boost for farmers in County Mayo given the very difficult weather conditions we have experienced in the last number of months.

“€190 million is being allocated in this round of payments and this is in addition to the €49 million already paid out by the Agriculture Department by way of the second tranche of grant-aid under the scheme towards the end of 2009.

“In all, a total of €293 million was paid under the scheme in 2009, which compared with an original allocation of €220 million, and by the end of this month, total Exchequer funding for this scheme will have exceeded €1 billion.”

Dep Flynn continued: “This makes the Farm Waste Management Scheme the most significant on-farm investment scheme in the history of the State. It has helped farms meet the requirements of the Nitrates Directive and it will greatly support the agriculture industry into the future,” concluded Dep Flynn.
