Roller marathon fundraiser

The Western Lakes Cycling club will hold a fundraising roller marathon next Saturday in conjunction with Ballinrobe’s special shopping incentive day.

There will be six stationary bikes positioned on the back of an artic truck with them all wired to speedometers just like in a gym. The idea is that club members will give an hour or two of their time to the fundraiser, by either cycling or collecting on the street from the public. The music will be pumping along with the cyclists so that a vibrant atmosphere is created to entice the public to support our active club. The truck will be located at the Cornmarket outside the new Barber shop.

The day will be a fun event with cyclists spinning away while attempting to cycle the equivalent distance of a round Ireland trip in 10 hours, a giant map will be erected with the route marked out, and will be updated each hour to show the cyclists’ progress. This will require each participant to cycle for one hour at an average speed of 25mph so that they can hit the target distance of 1,250 miles.

There will also be a stationary bike for members of the public to come and have a go while also aiding the GOAL and adding some extra miles to the distance. The spinning will start at 10am and finish around 8pm that evening or when they have the distance covered. The club is looking for people to volunteer their time for collecting as well as for cycling. For more info contact Mary 0879704069.
