Bail for six men involved in Ballina family feud

Six cousins who were involved in disturbances in Ballina last weekend were before Ballina District Court on Tuesday for dangerous driving, assault, and criminal damage charges in the Fenian Row, Teeling Street, and Tone Street areas of Ballina.

The court heard that Paddy Collins, 17 Fenian Row, Ballina, was arrested on Tuesday morning September 22 and charged with criminal damage charges on September 18, on Teeling Street, Ballina.

Superintendent Frank Walsh made an application to have Collins remanded in custody as he was awaiting further charges from the DPP. Solicitor Alan Gannon made an application for bail as Collins, who is a married, unemployed, man from Ballina, made himself available to gardaí. Supt Walsh said that Collins is a flight risk and he left for Waterford following last weekend’s incidents; he said the charges are serious and there is a likelihood of re-offending.

Judge Mary Devins granted a €500 cash bail on the conditions that Collins signs on daily at Ballina Garda Station between the hours of 9am and 11am; remains sober; has no contact with the Collins family on the Foxford Road directly or through third parties; that he stays away from the Collins’ home on the Foxford Road; and that he adheres to a 10.30pm to 8am curfew.

Cliff Collins, 9 Abbey Court, Kilalla Road, Ballina, who is charged with dangerous driving on Teeling Street, Ballina, on September 18, was also remanded on the same cash bail with the same conditions attached, as were Charles Collins, 17 Fenian Row (who is charged with criminal damage on Teeling Street on September 18 ), and Thomas Collins, 17 Fenian Row (who is charged with dangerous driving on Teeling Street on September 18 ).

Hugh Collins, Rehins, Foxford Road, Ballina, who is charged with criminal damage on Tone Street and dangerous driving on Fenian Row on September 17, was also granted €500 bail with similar conditions apart from the fact that he is to sign on between 7pm and 9pm and must stay away from the Collins home and family on Fenian Row. Terry Collins, Rehins, Foxford Road (charged with criminal damage on Tone Street, dangerous driving and assault on Fenian Row on September 17 ), was also asked to adhere to these variants in the bail conditions.

All six men will appear before Ballina District Court on November 10 for DPP directions.
