Our Ladies’ School of Evangelisation, Knock presents Rexband in concert at the Royal Theatre Castlebar, on Sunday August 30. Our Ladies’ School of Evangelisation is a charity organisation. The school is a Catholic school that runs a nine month course in evangelisation training. Its aim is to empower people to live the gospel more fully in their lives and in turn transmit the love of their faith into the wider community. This concert is one of the fund-raising efforts being made in order to keep the school open and functional.
This fundraiser concert promises to be a mega extravangza with psychedelic lights and powerful sound including music, presentations, theatre, and choreography. Established in the late 1980s and early 1990s by a group of young musicians who experienced a life-changing encounter with Jesus through the Jesus youth movement, this band are now touring across the world into countries such as UK, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Singapore, and India among others. In India alone they have performed more than 500 shows and were the main stage performers at the World Youth Day 2002 Toronto, WYD 2005 Cologne, and WYD 2008 Sydney.
Their unique sound is a fusion of ethnic Indian and contemporary elements all brought together with a high energy performance. This group with some 25 touring members all have a distinctive talent in music and theatre and is evident to see from the love and passion that is in them when they take to the stage. They perform to a mix of hip hop, rock, and pop that has the audience dancing on their seats. Suitable for all ages.
The band have endeavoured to reach out to music lovers through their 11 albums in various languages and Roses in Winter, the latest album, showcases the trademark sounds of the band from popular music to experimental fusion music.
Earlier this year the music of Rexband made it into the international compilation of Catholic music BONCM (Best of New Catholic Music Compilation 2009 ) put together by rockingromans.com, the largest Catholic music platform on the web. The music was chosen through an international contest in which 22 Catholic contemporary bands from the USA, Australia, Canada, Germany, and Sweden participated. The Rexband song ‘Hallelujah Amen’ from their latest album Sonrise is the song that has been chosen to be included on BONCM compilation.
