Chambers praises Mayo General Hospital in his last days in politics

Newport Fianna Fáil councillor Frank Chambers will bow out of political life this week but not before he heaps praise on the staff of Mayo General Hospital.

“In the midst of much political turmoil and negative press regarding the future of Mayo General Hospital, I would like to publicly compliment the nursing staff, medical doctors and administrative staff for their sterling service, courtesy and dedication to patient care at Mayo General Hospital.

“Having recently experienced the professional care in accident and emergency and intensive care unit with a family member, I have the highest regard for the commitment, support, kindness, excellent nursing and medical care that was of exceptional high standard and would compare admirably with any centre of excellence in Ireland.”

He said we should be proud of Mayo General Hospital and the service and quality of care it delivers. “It provides a very important health service within our county and it should be supported in a positive light, for the services it delivers to the people of Mayo.

“I would also like to praise and acknowledge the wonderful professionalism of our paramedics and ambulance services within the county. Front line health services provide us with emergency cover when we least expect it and they offer 24 hours service seven days a week.

“As a citizen of Mayo, I recognise with gratitude and acknowledge the excellent service provided by Mayo General Hospital. As a county, we should give due affirmation to the service it provides to many people and hold Mayo General Hospital in high esteem within our county.”
