Teacher disqualified from driving

A married teacher in her forties who failed a roadside breath test and then failed to provide a breath sample at Ballina Garda Station was disqualified from driving for four years and convicted and fined €800 at Ballina District Court on Tuesday.

Josephine O’Connell, The Swallows, Quay Road, Ballina, was stopped by Garda

Martin McNicholas on Barrett Street at 10.50pm on Sunday October 26 2008, where a checkpoint was being carried out.

Garda McNicholas detected a smell of liquor from the defendant and O’Connell subsequently failed a roadside breath test. At Ballina Garda Station the defendant made no effort to blow into the intoxilyser machine and failed to provide a sample.

Judge Mary Devins convicted, fined, and disqualified O’Connell.
