In a statement issued to the Mayo Advertiser yesterday, the council said: "Mayo County Council can confirm that responses to RTE’s queries were furnished to the programme over recent weeks, in relation to the matters highlighted in the RTE Investigates programme

"The first matter concerning the decommitment of Outdoor Recreational Infrastructural Funding in respect of a small number of projects in Mayo, is the subject of a number of detailed reports which are publicly available. Mayo County Council is taking all necessary actions to fully address the issues raised and remains committed to delivering the Clew Bay Greenway and all other relevant projects.

"In relation to the issues raised around Building control Regulations at Castlebar Swimming pool, Mayo County Council is satisfied that it has the required certification under the Building Control Regulations for the Lough Lannagh Leisure Centre, and that these are supported by appropriate qualifications and professional indemnification.

"Mayo County Council is aware of a dispute between the Main Contractor and a Sub-Contractor who worked on the construction of the Lough Lannagh Leisure Centre and is aware that there may be legal proceedings which Mayo County Council is not a party to. Mayo County Council has advised An Garda Síochána that the Council will fully cooperate with their investigation."
