Foxford woman sets up fundraiser to honour late dad and mark Dementia Awareness Day

A fundraising campaign has been set up by Frances Moloney from Foxford and she is hoping to use the GoFundMe page to raise funds for the 'Walk a Mile & Make Me Smile', dementia awareness event on June 21.

This year, Frances has decided to mark the event by walking in remembrance of her late Dad (Dick Casey – Ballina ) who the family sadly lost to dementia.

Frances will walk and remember the fun times she had with her Dad before dementia stole him from them. She will walk from her home in Toomore, Foxford at 8am (the time her Dad went to daily mass ) to Bráid, Foxford – where, according to Frances, she will need to sit down for a while before doing the return trip!

Although there is no formal ‘Walk a Mile’ event this year due to Covid, Frances is encouraging everyone to walk a mile in remembrance of a loved one or simply as an act of solidarity to anyone you know who is living with or caring for someone living with dementia. Frances wants to remind the wider community that behind every person living with dementia there is an individual, a family, a friend and a member of the community.

All funds raised will be used to support the charity Frances set up in her Dad’s honour – Foxford & District Alzheimer’s Trust (CHY20152925 ).
