Ballina students make it to Junk Kouture grand finals

Transition year students, Muireann Igeo, Laura O'Hara and Alva Gallagher, students at St Mary's Secondary School, Ballina, are Junk Kouture Grand Finalists for 2020.

They will finally get to strut their stuff at the Grand Finals to be aired on RTE 2 on February 4 at 7pm. Their team is called Random Reality and their design is inspired by Op art and made from cardboard and wire.

Due to covid restrictions, the 2020 finals could not be held last April but organisers instead held regional photoshoots and filming sessions.

The St Mary's team travelled, with their art teacher, Renee Cronin, to Gloucester House in Offaly on November 24. There, they took part in a photoshoot and filming session which will make up part of this year's Grand Final broadcast.

The St Mary's community looks forward to tuning in to watch the Grand Final and cheering on the girls. The school's current Transition year students are already busy designing their creations for the global Junk Kouture 2021 competition.
