Henry Kenny calls for local road improvements in light of recent accidents

Following two serious car accidents in Mayo last weekend Councillor Henry Kenny has called on Mayo County Council to implement safety measures at the Prizon Road, Balla adjoining the N60 at a junction at Drimadoon. Cllr Kenny said: “In light of a recent and sad fatal accident, there is a definite need to upgrade and improve safety measures at this junction.” Furthermore, he is calling on the council to improve the road surface at Coyne’s Corner on the Westport Road at Ballymacragh, Castlebar. This is following a number of recent accidents.

Cllr Kenny explained: “Following the recent cuts to the county’s annual roads budget by the Environment Minister John Gormley, there is a need for the council to prioritise any road improvements in the area on the basis of safety. It is unfortunate that accidents are occurring on some of the roads in the locality, however, this is the situation that presents itself and any improvements that are feasible should be implemented.”
