Driving ban for woman with no insurance

A Ballinrobe woman was banned from driving for a year after being convicted at Claremorris District Court this week for driving with no insurance. Teresa Sweeney, 5 Bog Road, Ballinrobe was convicted in her absence.

Garda Hugh O’Donnell told the court that he stopped Sweeney at 3.50pm on January 24 2009 on the Ballindine Road, Claremorris. He went on to say that the tax disc on the car expired in March 2008 and there was no insurance on the vehicle. She said that she would produce her documentation within 10 days at a Garda station, which she failed to do. Garda O’Donnell did tell the court that following his investigations the car had since been taxed to cover the period when the car was stopped.

Judge Devins convicted and fined Sweeney €750 for driving without insurance and disqualified her from driving for one year. For failure to produce her insurance she convicted and fined her €50, for failure to display insurance she convicted and fined her €50. For having no driving licence she convicted and fined her €150.
