Dillon welcomes €276k for Ballyheane National School under additional accommodation scheme

Fine Gael General Election candidate Alan Dillon has welcomed the announcement that Ballyheane National School, Castlebar, has been approved funding for an additional classroom, ensuite facility and a further special education teaching classroom.

The school which has 85 pupils has experienced a rise in enrolment in recent years and this latest announcement is a huge boost for the rural village.

Reacting to the news Dillon says the additional accommodation, including ICT and furnishings ensures the staff and pupils can continue their teaching and learning to the highest standards.

He said: "This is great news for the school, staff and community and I would like to thank Minister Joe McHugh for approving the school’s application.

"This school and Ballyheane community is a model of excellence for cooperation who are determined to remain vibrant, to provide community facilities and ensure their school is well supported."

The purpose of the Additional Accommodation Scheme is to ensure that essential classroom accommodation is available to cater for pupils enrolled each year and where the need cannot be met by the school’s existing accommodation.
