Mayo How R U to be launched next week

Mayo How R U is the latest powerful campaign to be launched by Mayo Mental Health Fair.

The campaign will be launched next Thursday, October 10, in Market Square in Castlebar from 10am to 1pm. The campaign encourages people to ask neighbours, friends, family members and colleagues: “How R U?” in a meaningful way.

The campaign is an effort to reach out to people, make face-to-face contact and give them an opportunity to “drop the mask” and reveal their true feelings when asked the question, “how are you?” The aim of the campaign is to help someone who may be struggling.

Teresa Keane, development officer with Mental Health Ireland and chair of the Mayo Mental Health Fair Committee, explained: "Connecting face to face is so important for somebody who might be going through a tough time. If there is somebody in your life who you’ve been meaning to talk to, use ‘Hello Mayo, How R U?’ to reach out to them. A listening ear, a little compassion, makes a big difference."

MMHF is made up of a number of partners who organised the event, including Mayo Mental Health Association in partnership with HSE Connecting for Life, Employability Mayo, Irish Donkey Welfare Organisation, Mayo Recovery College, Bealach Nua, Shine and the Green Ribbon campaign.
