Man arrested over Mayo shooting released without charge

Gardai have released without charge a man in his eighties who was arrested as part of their investigation into the fatal shooting of a man at Coogue, Aghamore, on Tuesday.

Gardai also reported that a post mortem has been completed on the deceased man and the results will not be released for operational reasons. A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions and investigations are ongoing.

Gardai attended the scene of the shooting, which occurred at approximately 11.55pm on Tuesday night in Aghamore, and a man in his sixties was pronounced dead at the scene. They sealed off the scene for a technical examination by investigators from the Garda Technical Bureau and arrested a man in his eighties in relation to the incident.

The body of the deceased was removed to Mayo University Hospital where a post mortem was carried out by a pathologist from the State Pathologist's office on Wednesday.
