Street eats return for Mayo Food Festival

Bring your appetites for this year's Mayo Street Food Festival.

Now in its third year, the festival takes place in Castlebar on Sunday, September 8 and will run from 12 noon until 5pm.

Bridge Lane (located off the main street between Elverys and Bridge St bar ) will play host to this year's event. The laneway will be full of mouth-watering morsels and aromas as restaurants and producers join forces to treat festival-goers to some incredible food.

Top restaurants including House of Plates, The Dining Room, The Brewery Cup, Rua, Bar One, Mulroy's and the Bay Leaf will be cooking up a storm and filling hungry bellies. The Mayo Street Food big tent will return, where chefs will serve up tasty treats, while this year there will also be a unique pop-up space, in which many of the producers will showcase their wares.

The lane will be lined with food trucks, local producers, and live music, while DJ Finbar Hoban and DJ Dodgy will soundtrack the afternoon's activities. Two of Mayo's finest breweries will also be on hand with Mescan and Reel Deel serving up delicious craft beer.

The food being served up in a street food style will have a price point of between €5 and €7 and festival-goers are encouraged to sample several dishes to get the full street food experience.

The Mayo Street Food Festival aims to celebrate local produce at its finest. In the build-up to this year's festival, organisers and restaurants hosted the Mayo Street Food Festival Food Series – a series of fundraising events which incorporated everything from fine wines to foraging and comedy bingo to tapas. Mayo GAA star and local businessman Donal Vaughan launched this year's festival.

Festival co-founder, Sarah Ní Shúilleabháin, said: "We are delighted with the support we have received from chefs, producers and local businesses, councillors and volunteers, and would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported our fundraising efforts so far.

"The festival has a new home this year and it promises to provide an amazing backdrop and atmosphere. We hope that everyone who enjoyed the festival last year will return and we look forward to welcoming many more new faces," added co-founder Siobhan Foody.
