NORTH MAYO

Card Game in Blacksod

A 25 card game takes place in Ionad Deirbhile Heritage Centre, Eachléim, on Thursday nights at 8.30pm.

Ballina Active Retired

Ballina Active Retirement Association continues its busy schedule of events and held a table quiz on Wednesday, May 15 which was enjoyed by all who attended. Whist will continue to be played every Wednesday afternoon in the Pastoral Centre at 2.15pm, with the exception of Wednesday, June 12. Walking, swimming and matt bowling events are ongoing.

Inis Gluaire Boat Trip

A Boat Trip to Inish Gluaire will take place on Sunday, May 26 as part of Feile Chlann Lir, departing from Blacksod at 10am (weather permitting ) the cost is €45 per person. To book call (086 ) 2695851.

Children of Lir Loop Walk

Tomorrow Saturday, May 25 a special Children of Lir loop walk will take place. This spectacular guided walk will go along The Dún Chaocáin cliffs, staring at 10.30am. Meet at Teach Greanni. Cost €10 per person with €5 extra to include lunch. For more information contact (097 ) 88935.

Sunflower Volunteers

National Sunflower days for hospice is coming up on Friday, June 7 and Saturday, June 8 and as many volunteers as possible are needed to help raise funds and make the event a success. Sunflowers will be on sale at stores in Belmullet, Ballina and other towns in Mayo. Any time you can give on those dates would be most appreciated. Safe Pass course

Ballina FRC parent and toddler Group

The parent and Toddler group takes place every Thursday from 10am to 12 noon in the centre. This group is open to all parents, grandparents and childminders to come along with their child/children and meet new people over a cuppa and a chat. Mayo Cancer Support Organisation in Ballina

Mayo Cancer Support (Rock Rose House ) operates a free counselling/therapy service every Tuesday from the Ballina Family Resource centre. Ring Jean on (087 ) 2804164 to book an appointment.

Believe in Ballinrobe

A new civic pride initiative is happening in Ballinrobe. The "Believe in Ballinrobe" campaign aims to improve and enhance the town for the benefit of everyone. The campaign is looking for people willing to become advocates for their town and get involved with new and existing projects, and for all stakeholders to unite behind, and work towards common aspirational goals for the future prosperity of Ballinrobe. Bee Keeping in Claremorris

Maria Kirrane PHD will give a lecture on Bee Keeping in the Dalton Inn, Claremorris on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at 8pm. The lecture will emphasise the importance of bees in the world to-day.

Ballyglass Heritage Club Vintage Rally

The Ballyglass Heritage Club Vintage Rally will take place on Sunday June 2. Vintage tractors, Cars, Motorcycles, and Stationary Engines on display. Demonstrations of Threshing, Children's Bouncy Castle, High-Nelly Bicycle Run and loads more on the day, admission €5 for adults and children free.

Garrymore GAA Lip Sync Battle

Garrymore GAA Club are proud to present their first ever Lip Sync Battle on Sunday, June 2 at 9pm in Garrymore Hall in aid of the Garrymore Development Fund. All Club Members and Friends are invited to participate. If you are interested in participating, please contact any development committee member. Cornamona Cycle for Hospice

The 25th Annual Cornamona 50 mile sponsored cycle in conjunction with Mayo Roscommon Hospice and Galway hospice takes place on Saturday June 15 commencing at 10.30am. The event will be followed by Bar-B-Q at 4pm. The route will take in Cornamona, Maam, Leenane, Inagh Valley, Recess, Maam Cross, Maam, Cornamona. Connacht Pioneers celebration in Claremorris

Connaught Pioneers is celebrating the Golden Jubilee of its foundation on Sunday, May 26 in the Dalton Inn Hotel, Claremorris. Mass takes place at 2.30pm with dinner to follow at 3pm. Aware meeting in Ballinrobe

The Aware group meets every Thursday at 8pm in Tacu. It’s free, confidential – no booking/referral necessary, just turn up on the night. Aware support offers a unique opportunity for people over the age of 18-years-old to talk openly about depression, bipolar disorder and other related conditions and their impact. They guarantee confidentiality within normal limits. People share their experience and understanding and offer an exchange of thoughts and techniques around self-care and resilience.

Ballinrobe Men's Shed

The Men's Shed meets on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in the building up at the Cycling Centre/Water Towers on the Kilmaine Road from 10am to 12.30pm. Come up and see what is going on or what you may like to do. All men welcome.

St Colman's Reunion

There will be a reunion of the St Colman's Claremorris class groups from 1964 to 1969 on Saturday, May 25. It will commence with a guided tour of Claremorris getting underway at 3pm in the Square, followed by a tour of the college at 5pm with a buffet in the Dalton Inn Hotel at 7pm. Crochet classes for beginners in Claremorris

Kiltimagh Community Futures

Kiltimagh Community Futures volunteers have collected more than 600 household surveys. The results will be displayed at a Community Voting Day on Sunday, June 9 in the Park Hotel from 3pm to 5pm. Ballyhaunis Summer Festival

Again this year Ballyhaunis is hosting its Summer Festival over the June Bank Holiday Weekend and activities in the first week of June with all the regular favourites. On Friday, May 31, an inter-pub quiz takes place in pubs all over town with 12 rounds of fun. During the rounds there will be a fundraiser for Mayo SPCA. On Saturday, June 1, a fun-filled national school colour run will take place, registration will take place at 11am in Ballyhaunis GAA grounds. On Sunday June 2, it is traditional fair day in the town. More on the festival next week.

Ballyhaunis GAA 50/50 draw

The winner of last weekend's Ballyhaunis GAA 50/50 draw was Maeve Donnellan, Clare Street, Ballyhaunis. She bought her ticket in Curley's, this weekend's draw takes place in MacSuairtains on Sunday evening.

ICA Annual Outing

An ICA outing to Clare will take place on Thursday, May 30. The trip will take in a boat trip in Doolin and shopping in Ennis. Bus leaving The Square, Kilkelly, at 7.30am sharp. Cost of bus is €20, for more information and booking contact Kilkelly Post Office or Mary on (086 ) 060 3654.

Fundamentals of goalkeeping in Kiltimagh/Knock United

The Football Association of Ireland is holding a Fundamentals of Goalkeeping FAI Course in Kiltimagh/Knock Utd FC, Co Mayo, on Thursday June 6 from 6.30pm to 9.30pm. Participants must attend all modules of the course in order to qualify for certification. Course fee is €45. This course is limited to 24 participants so book early to avoid disappointment. Ballyhaunis 10 mile road race

A piece of history is being forged in Ballyhaunis during this year’s Summer Festival and the June Bank Holiday weekend. There has been an annual Road Race in the town for the last 14 years. For the last 11 years an 8k has been a regular part of Mayo Athletic Club calendar. This year the organizers decided it needed a change and something new. They have decided to go with their first 10 mile Road Race. Head office again will be at Ballyhaunis Rugby club. They have endeavoured to keep it off the main road as much as possible and try to keep it to one loop. The start will be adjacent to The Mulberry Lodge B & B, Upper Main Street, Ballyhaunis, down through Annagh, Carrowneden, Coolnaha and back up through Annagh to finish at the Rugby Club. It’s a measured and permitted course and there will be chip timing for the race. For any members of Mayo AC, this is a league race and you may collect some valuable points.

Two day Watercolour Portrait Workshop

Progress Art Network will be holding a two day Watercolour Portrait Workshop with award winning Sky Arts artist Aine Divine. It will be held on Saturday, June 8 and Sunday, June 9 from 11am to 5pm each day in Breaffy NS, School Hall. The fee for the course is €250 for the two days. Custom House Studios are pleased to host a group exhibition - Lurid Ideal - featuring works from Christopher James Burns, Craig Donald, Anna Marie Savage and Anne Marie Taggart every day until Monday, June 3.

Quay Community Centre Women's Group

The Women's Group from the Quay Community Centre in conjunction with the Octagon Quilters will host an open afternoon on Sunday, June 2 from 1pm to 4pm in the Quay Community Centre. This will be an opportunity to meet these amazing women and see their work. New members are welcome to join in September when the groups resume. Light refreshments will be provided. Anam Cara evening

Anam Cara Mayo, the organisation that supports bereaved parents, is holding its monthly parent evening on Tuesday, May 28 at 7.20pm in the T.F Royal Hotel, Castlebar, Co. Mayo. This event offers parents a safe and comfortable forum where they can connect with other bereaved parents who understand the depth of grief and loss that follows after the death of their precious son or daughter. With Summer approaching it can often be a particularly difficult time for bereaved parents whose son or daughter are not here for summer holidays and family occasions. It is important bereaved parents know there is support and resources available.

Barn dance for Hospice

A Big White Barn dance in aid of Mayo Roscommon Hospice will take place in the Punch Bowl, Ballyhean, Castlebar, on Friday, June 7 and Saturday, June. 8 Music by Cliona Hagan and Stuart Moyles on Friday night and Patrick Feeney and Nigel Livingstone on Saturday night. Clogher Nature Walk

A guided nature walk entitled "Wildflowers of the Wetlands" will take place from Clogher Heritage Centre each Tuesday in May commencing at 7pm. Come along and enjoy The Clogher Bog Loop Walk and learn about some of the fabulous variety of wildflowers available to view right on our doorsteps.
