€2 million investment represents statement of intent for GMIT Castlebar campus - Ring

Michael Ring TD, the Minister for Rural and Community Development, has said that the €2 million Government investment announced on Friday September 14 to upgrade the roof in GMIT represents a major statement of intent by the Government in the Castlebar campus.

Minister Ring said: "I am delighted to announce that funding of €2 million will be provided to support an upgrade of the roof and other building fabric at the GMIT Castlebar campus.

"This recognises the health and safety challenge posed by the current roof condition and responds to a recommendation of the Working Group on Developing a Sustainable Plan for the Mayo Campus of Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology.

"The Government is putting its money where its mouth is when it comes to GMIT Castlebar. Investment of this kind can only bode well for the future of the campus.

"As Minister for Rural and Community Development, I am determined that as a Government we work to ensure that people have the opportunity to be educated, work and live in any region in the country. Investment such as this will help ensure that people in Mayo have the opportunity to be educated to a high standard within the county.”

Today’s announcement is part of the Government’s multi-billion Investment in education as part of Project Ireland 2040, the Government’s €116 billion investment and development plan for the next decade.
