Brewed in Mayo - Mariko now available nationwide

Mariko Sparkling Green Tea is Ireland’s first carbonated, 100 per cent natural green tea. It has zero sugar, fat, and calories. It has high levels of antioxidants and is brewed by Christine McAndrew from Belmullet, Mayo.

Mariko was launched at the end of 2013 to a great response and has since gone from strength to strength. The unique sparkling green tea drink has been praised by many well-known health-conscious individuals and organisations, including Roz Purcell, Bressie, and Daniel Davey, performance nutritionist with Leinster Rugby and Dublin Senior Football.

Mariko is brewed from pure green tea leaves called sencha which contain high levels of antioxidants. Unlike its international counterparts, Mariko is carbonated and does not contain artificial sweeteners, sugar, or fat.

While travelling abroad some years ago, Ms McAndrew was amazed to see how many different types of teas she was offered when visiting family and friends. In recent years, she was unsurprised to find that tea is quickly becoming one of the world’s most consumed beverages and that the research surrounding green tea and its health benefits has boosted its popularity. This prompted her to experiment with creating a unique and wholesome beverage.

Daniel Davey says: “Mariko is a uniquely developed nutritious drink that can be consumed in the morning or afternoon. The reason I like it is because it is a real drink made with only water and green tea leaves. The vast majority of flavoured sparkling drinks on the market have either added sugars or sweeteners but Mariko only uses the flavour of green tea leaves, which provides a unique taste and energising feeling. I highly recommend the product for the 'drinking experience' and nutrition profile. I personally enjoy it with ice, fresh lime, lemon or a wedge of orange.”

Mariko is now available in supermarkets and stores all over Ireland, including SuperValu, Centra, Spar, Londis, and Gala. Mariko is truly one of a kind and, in this increasingly health-conscious world, it is a real alternative when you feel like having something other than water.
