HnBC is here to help with hair loss

Hair loss can affect men, women, and children, it can be very distressing for any person who is suffering from hair loss. At HnBC Hair Loss Clinic the most common type of hair loss seen is androgenetic alopecia, commonly referred to as female or male pattern baldness.

Androgenetic alopecia starts off with hair thinning predominantly over the top/crown area in addition to the temples receding in men. Approximately one third of all women are at risk of suffering from this. It is normal to lose 100-150 hairs a day for a normal hair, but when these hairs are lost they are supposed to be replaced. True hair loss occurs when lost hairs are not replaced or do not grow back and when daily hair shedding exceeds 150 hairs. Hair loss can also be genetically predisposed.

There are two different types of hair loss, medically known as anagen effluvium and telogen effluvium. Anagen effluvium is caused by internally administered medications such as chemotherapy agents that kill the growing hair follicle. Telogen effluvium is due to increased number of follicles entering the resting stage and becoming inactive. When the resting stage or inactive stage is prolonged it results in hair loss because the hair that is lost during the resting stage is not being replaced hence a gradual diffusing of the hair follicles occurs which then leads to hair loss.

Unhealthy scalp conditions, systemic conditions, fever, diabetes, physical stress such as surgery, illness, anaemia, rapid weight change, and emotional stress are all possible causes of hair loss. Thyroid abnormalities, medications such as high doses of vitamin A and gout medications, along with hormonal changes due to pregnancy, birth control pills, and menopause all could interfere with the hair growth cycle causing people to lose their hair.

It is crucial for anyone losing their hair to get a proper diagnosis prior to any treatment. This is because, knowing the causative factors of the condition does not only help in providing the correct treatment but also in most cases the patient is reassured that once the underlying cause is dealt with, the hair growth can restore back to normal. Hence a proper diagnosis, proper course of treatments such as scalp treatment, laser hair growth therapy, alternative solutions such as hair replacement systems in addition to the right advice and counselling have proved to be successful in providing solutions to clients of HnBC. It is advisable for people suffering from hair loss to seek help since they are not alone and to contact the team at HnBC for professional advice on the various options available to them.
