FIVE Gala convenience stores from throughout Mayo have been awarded the Gold Standard for excellence in retail at the 2015 Gala Annual Conference and BEST Awards, which took place last week at The Malton Hotel, Killarney.

The Gold Standard is awarded following a comprehensive and independent assessment process under the Gala Business Excellence Standards Tool programme. The awards ceremony was MC’d by Lorraine Keane with special guests on the night including Pat Falvey, adventurer, and athletes from Special Olympics Ireland.

Mayo stores that received the gold award at the Gala BEST Awards were Coyle’s Gala in Belmullet, Durkan’s Gala in Louisburgh, McGloin’s Gala in Foxford, Tuffy’s Gala in Bonniconlon, and Tuffy’s Gala in Ballina. Many from the stores attended the annual Gala conference and awards ceremony.

Speaking at the conference, Gala CEO, Gary Desmond, said: “We offer our congratulations to all of the Mayo stores. This is a wonderful example of local Gala stores providing fantastic service to their customers and all of these stores are amongst the BEST retailers in the Gala Group. We wish all of these stores another successful year and look forward to the stores upholding their gold standard at next year’s conference.’’

The Gala annual conference brings together all of the retailers in the Gala Group for an inspirational day of motivational speeches, a trade fair and an update on the Gala business and new initiatives.
