It is a case of back to the '90s tomorrow night (Saturday ) at Garbo's Music Venue in Castlebar where a Grunge Unplugged concert is set to rock the stage for three hours to raise money for a very worthy cause.

The Grunge Unplugged concert is in aid of a local charity called Áirc, which supports children with disabilities and their families in Mayo.

Organisers of the event are promising a night of "stomping rock nostalgia" from Mayo tribute act Still Alive.

Expect classic anthems from some of the most influential groups of the 1990s, from Nirvana and Pearl Jam to Alice In Chains, Stone Temple Pilots and The Smashing Pumpkins.

Grunge Unplugged will feature over three hours of live music, followed by more '90s classics, courtesy of DJ Mark Conway.

Doors open at 9pm. Admission is €10. All monies raised on the night to go Áirc.

Live music showcase

In other entertainment news from Garbo's venue, a series of live original music will continue throughout the summer months and beyond, showcasing some of the best up-and-coming Irish bands from around Castlebar and Ireland.

Look out for acts such as The Fontaines, Be Curious Kid, The Jam Shugar Sessions and Ryan Sheridan.

The jam packed summer programme looks set to firmly establish Garbo's as one of the county's leading entertainment venues for live music.

Next Saturday night, July 25, Dublin band The Fontaines take to the stage with local band Be Curious Kid.

Expect a blend of math rock, funk, hip hop, and more on the night.

On the August Bank Holiday weekend, the Jam Shugar sessions return with an Irish rock night, featuring three bands.

The night will feature The Mississippi Shakes, a dedicated, hardworking, no frills, energetic power trio, inspired by Rory's Gallagher's life and music will feature with support from Skinny Liz, a tribute act to the brilliant Thin Lizzy.

Keep an eye out for more new announcements about Garbo's venue in the coming months, including strong rumours that the legendary singer/songwriter Damien Dempsey will be gracing the stage there later this year as part of the Finbar Hoban Presents series.
