Loved and respected by so many

Straide’s centenarian Sarah Deacy laid to rest

The community of Straide gathered in large numbers to bid farewell to its most senior member last weekend.

Sarah Deacy, formerly Sarah Duffy, from Killasser, Swinford, had celebrated her 100th birthday earlier this year, surrounded by her large extended family, and many, many friends.

Mrs Deacy enjoyed good health until just a few days before she passed away, peacefully in her home, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

Mrs Deacy was born in 1914. She married John Deacy from Straide in 1941. They had eight children and 43 years together before Mr Deacy passed away in 1984.

Mrs Deacy lived with her daughter Marian in Straide for the last nine years of her life.

Mrs Deacy had a wonderful relationship with her 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

The community of Straide, Killasser, and beyond filled Straide church on Saturday to pay their final respects to Mrs Deacy, whose wisdom, friendship, kindness, and good humour were valued and admired by so many.

The month’s mind Mass will be celebrated in Straide Church on August 1 at 7 pm.

May her gentle soul rest in peace. Deepest sympathy to her bereaved.
