Child protection in sport, sports first aid, walking and cycling leader training, sports leadership training, funding workshops and Lucozade sport education courses are just some of the upcoming sports volunteer training courses which will be available through the Mayo Sports Partnership over the coming months. These courses/seminars are aimed at community/sport volunteers, coaches, or indeed anyone who may have an interest in sport/physical activity. Dates and venues are mainly finalised with a full listing now available online. Mayo Football League announces new role for Jennings

The Mayo Football League last weekend announced the appointment of Tom Jennings as the supervisor of the league’s community employment scheme. Mr Jennings will be taking over the role previously held by the late Jeremy Dee. Mr Jennings served on the management committee since 2007, until he took up his new role last Monday morning.

Workshop to improve your running and cycling

Do you want to be more competitive in running, duathlons, triathlons, and adventure racing ? If so the Running School Castlebar is teaming up with top cycling coach Padraig Marrey to hold a workshop tomorrow, Saturday, February 9 at 9am, which is limited to 30 places. The workshop will cover running and bike riding technique to increasing performance, developing speed, and reducing injuries.

The course will be run by Padraig Marrey (Union Cycliste Internationals, Level 3 ), Martin McIntyre (BSc, MSc ), and Cathal Cregg (BSc, MSc ). The course will run from 9am to 1pm, and include a number of very different presentations, workshops, and analysis work.

The course will be held in The Running School at the Sports Injuries and Sports Medicine Clinic, Unit 5c, N5 Business Park, Castlebar. Attendees: Places are limited so ring to confirm attendance, call 094 9020005.

Para cycling league event to be held in Ballaghaderreen

Ballaghaderreen CC with the support of the Mayo League Cycling Clubs is hosting the first stage of the Invacare Para Cycling League on March 9. The day will start outside Ballaghaderreen GAA pitch with sign on and a come and try event between 11.30am and 12.30pm, followed by the senior event with the first rider out at 1pm from the Castlerea Road over a 16km time trial.  It is an excellent opportunity for new comers to try the sport and see the standard of athletes with a wide range of disabilities.
