Care assistant convicted for drink driving

A 49-year-old woman was convicted for drink driving at Castlebar District Court this week.

On February 27 2012, at 1.39am, gardaí were called to a two vehicle traffic collision on the Newport Road.

Edel Walsh, 19 The Fairways, Castlebar, had rear ended a car. The defendant was arrested for drink driving. At Castlebar Garda Station she provided a blood sample which gave a reading of 245mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood.

The woman, who works as a care assistant in England, drove the car that night after a row with her partner. She did not have insurance at the time.

The court heard that the woman has not taken alcohol since the incident and is addressing her alcohol dependency.

Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined her €500 for drink driving and disqualified her from driving for three years. For not having insurance she was convicted and fined €300 and disqualified from driving for one year concurrent.
