Acclaimed singer Eimear Quinn returns for what promises to be another unforgettable intimate Christmas concert at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Wednesday December 14 at 8pm.

Eimear Quinn's ethereal voice first enthralled the world as the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest in 1996 with Brendan Graham's “The Voice”. Dublin born Eimear joined her first choir at the age of four and at 15 she started formal vocal training at the College of Music in Dublin. A former soloist with Celtic chamber choir Anúna, Eurovision success brought Eimear international fame and acclaim. On this seasonal night, Eimear brings her own special rendition of Christmas songs and carols to the Linenhall for a memorable musical experience featuring her beautiful voice. So sit back and let the hustle and bustle fade away. The Christmas season begins right here; let your spirit be moved.

Mayo artists’ show

The Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar presents the ever-popular biennial celebration of the visual arts in Mayo. The selected show, comprising 250 pieces in total, presents a cornucopia of work in all manner of media and offers a fascinating snapshot of the breadth of arts practice in the county. And with art dripping off the walls and something for all tastes (and prices ), this might just be the ideal opportunity to find that elusive and unique Christmas present. The exhibition runs until Saturday January 21.

The Linenhall Gallery is open to the general public Monday to Friday from 10am to 5pm; Saturday from 11am to 5.30pm. Admission to exhibitions is free.

Sean nós dance workshops

Join award-winning sean-nós dancer Emma O'Sullivan for a series of five dance classes for adults and children, which will keep you on your toes (and heels! ). Emma hails from Connemara. She won the All-Ireland Sean-Nós Dancing title at Oireachtas na Samhna in Letterkenny in 2009 and was a finalist in RTE's The All Ireland Talent Show in 2010. Sean nós workshops take place over five Wednesday evenings beginning January 25. Beginner children 6pm to 7pm; beginner adults 7.15pm to 8.15pm; improver adults and children 8.30pm to 9.30pm.
