Mayo TD says Government needs to answer questions over handling of failed referendum

The failure of the Government to have the referendum on Oireachtas inquiries passed at last week's Presidential election raises major issues for the coalition parties, according to Mayo Fianna Fáil TD Dara Calleary.

“The Government has serious questions to answer over its handling of the Oireachtas Inquiries Referendum”, Deputy Calleary said. “The Government displayed extreme arrogance on this issue, particularly in the final days of the campaign. Minister Alan Shatter’s instant dismissal of the concerns of eight former Attorneys General was breathtaking and the public’s response has been loud and clear
