€1,000 fine for woman who failed to pay correct PRSI

A business woman who ran a launderette in Ballyhaunis and failed to pay the correct PRSI for two of her employees was convicted and fined €1,000 at Ballyhaunis District Court this week. Pauline Turner O’Boyle with an address at Abbey Laundry, Abbey Street, Ballyhaunis, was not in court but was represented by her solicitor Cathy McDarby.

Gerard Stapleton, an inspector for the Revenue Commissioners, told the court he received a complaint from two people who used to work for Turner O’Boyle that the correct PRSI had not been paid for them. He took statements from both individuals and arranged to meet Turner O’Boyle and inspect her wage records on July 28 2009, but when he arrived at her premises she was not there. When he got in touch with her again, she told him that she had expected him the previous day. He told the court he arranged a meeting with her again for August 18 2009, when once again Ms Turner O’Boyle was not present when he called. He told the court that he had subsequently met with Ms Turner O’Boyle and that through the investigation the amount outstanding was €5,265.18 between the two individuals. Mr Stapleton informed the court that the business is no longer in operation. Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined Turner O’Boyle €1,000 giving her 14 days to pay in her absence.
