Tough conditions for bog week cycle

Strong winds and heavy rain made the going really tough in Tully Cross for the first Bog Week two-day stage race. JJ Flaherty of Western Lakes CC was the race director for the weekend. A smaller than usual turnout from the Connacht cycling clubs didn't dampen the racing even if the rain did.

The south east of the country was well represented with two teams from Wexford with Slaney CC and Wexford wheelers up to grip the laurels.

A Connacht development team of mostly junior cyclist got the chance to race against the stronger A riders but they had the advantage of getting a handicap on the two road racing stages. With squalling winds the racing at times was fast and furious and when into the head wind nearly at a stand still, these were the conditions that the cyclists had to cope with, and with the routes well marshalled by gardaí and local volunteers the race passed off without incident.

Overall results:, 143k, 1st: David Walsh (Slaney CC ), 2nd Padraig Marrey (Western Lakes CC ), 3rd Frank Dunne (Slaney CC ), 4th Mike Ryder (Galway Bay CC ), 5th Charles Prendergast (Cunga CC ), 6th Conchubhar Ó Crualaoich (Slaney CC )

Cycling legend Sean Kelly visits new Castlebar cycle store

Sean Kelly rode along with the group offering tips and advice followed by tea and refreshments in the cycle store. Brian would like to thank everyone involved who made the day such an enjoyable event.
