Castlebar girl presents Queen with flowers at Trinity College

An Taoiseach Enda Kenny and his wife Fionnuala were not the only Castlebar people to meet the Queen this week. Fourth year Trinity College student Rebecca Kilkelly from Castlebar presented the royal visitor with an arrangement of native Irish flowers during her visit to Trinity College on Tuesday afternoon.

Rebecca who is a French and sociology student and daughter of Fergus and Rowena Kilkelly, from Kilkelly Travel in Castlebar, was following in the footsteps of her great grandmother. In 1901, Alice Smyth, Rebecca’s great grandmother who was a pupil at Loreto Abbey, Rathfarnham, presented Queen Victoria with a posy when she visited the school. The bouquet was made up of native flowers specially selected from the Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin.
