O’Mahony wants to see Mayo get back on track

As he officially launched his re-election campaign in the McWilliam Park Hotel, Claremorris, Mayo Fine Gael TD, John O’Mahony, said he was eagerly looking forward to putting his political reputation on the line in the coming weeks for the people of Mayo to cast judgement.

He said that since he was elected in 2007, he had worked hard and diligently for the people of the county, adding that he had always regarded it as an immense honour to have had such trust placed in him by so many people.

“It’s been an incredible experience working on behalf of the people of Mayo and I have found it extremely fulfilling. There have been ups and there have been downs but I genuinely believe that I have made a difference and I can put my hand on my heart and say to people that I did my best. I have contributed to over 160 debates in Dáil Éireann and have put 1,539 questions to Ministers on all of these issues (and more ) on behalf of the people of Mayo.

“Now I want to do it all over again and continue the work, and this time, if the people of Ireland place their trust in our party, from within the Government. Anyone who knows me knows that I am not complacent and that I will take nothing for granted. I have worked hard all my life and I will continue to do so,” he said.

Addressing the issue of unemployment in Mayo, Deputy O’Mahony said there was hope. “We have to have hope because without it we have nothing. I believe in the people of this county and in our ability to rise again. At the moment, there are far too many of our men and women out of work; far too many of our people being forced to live away from Ireland but I also genuinely believe that we can get Mayo people back working again.

“We have some wonderful entrepreneurs in Mayo and we need to give them the opportunities to put their ideas to work. Fine Gael wants to get Ireland working again and if the people of Ireland place their trust in us, then we can get back to where we were,” he said.
