Bóthar charity climb

In September 2011, the Irish development aid agency Bóthar will send a group of trekkers to take on the challenge of both climbing Kilimanjaro and raising funds for the charity.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who might like a good challenge,” said Pat McCarrick, fundraising projects director with Bóthar, at the recent launch of the Kilimanjaro Challenge event. “Any hillwalker can achieve this goal; the altitude is the main issue but with careful planning and a reasonable level of fitness, it can be done easily.”

This 12-day trip also includes an opportunity to visit Bóthar projects on the lower slopes of Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Participants will get to meet families who have benefited from the gift of a Bóthar animal and visit locations in a region generally well outside the experience of most visitors to Africa.

Fundraising is required and a good level of fitness is essential. For more information or to sign up for the event, contact Bóthar at [email protected] or phone 071 912 0100.
