Welcome for council works on Turlough Road - Barrett

Cllr Harry Barrett has welcomed the progress being made on public paths and lighting on the Turlough Road, Castlebar.

“Sections of the road were a serious hazard to families living along the road, particularly those living in Whitehorse Lane estate,” Cllr Barrett said. “I want to commend the staff and officials of Castlebar Town Council, who are doing a fantastic job on this much needed section of walkway in the town. I have had two motions before the town council calling for emergency attention to be given to this road, and I'm delighted to see that a start has been made on dealing with it.

“As a result of the motions, €50,000 was allocated to the paths and lighting along the Turlough Road. It is still not enough to complete the necessary works but it is a reasonable start. Residents living at or near the junction with Knockthomas are very unhappy with the lack of public paths and I will keep working on this until we get enough monies from Castlebar Town Council to finish the job, so that residents can enjoy the same standard of walkway that other residents have throughout the town.”
