Flood works funding increase

Flood works funding has just been announced for a number of Mayo areas. Funding of €45,000 has been allocated for Dookinelly, Achill Island, for the provision of an outlet open to the sea and for roadside drainage. Other grants approved include €31,500 for works at Derryguillinan, Cloghans, and €52,200 for works on Owenwee River, comprising €27,900 for the drainage of the river, the river weir, and for the provision of fencing, and €24,300 for the repair of a culvert, for road strengthening works, and for fencing.

“This is the third round of funding that has been announced for flooding measures since October 2009 and brings the total allocated nationally in the last seven months to €11.9 million - a 500 per cent increase on the previous year,” said Minister Dara Calleary.
