Minster to be contacted over special needs cuts

A proposal put forward by Councillor Keith Martin to write to the Minister for Education regarding the decision to cut special needs assistants in Castlebar was passed after Cllr Tereasa McGuire seconded the proposal.

Odours in town investigated

The town engineer Patrick Corcoran said that Bridge Street has been monitored since a sewerage smell was detected and the council has found that everything is working correctly. Mayo County Council is currently investigating an odour on Altamount Street, where sewer gas smells have been identified and solutions to rectify the problem will be carried out straight away.

Allotments

The council is looking at the old reservoir site on the Lodge Road, which is land owned by the council, as a potential place for the town’s allotments, on a short-term basis.

Skate board park for Westport

Cathaoirleach of the town council, Cllr Myles Staunton, proposed that the management see what land in council ownership could provide an outdoor youth facility, including a skate park. This proposal was seconded by Cllr Martin Keane.
