Mayo shoppers contribute to setting up of suicide prevention helpline

Residents in Mayo will now have access to a 24/7 suicide prevention helpline co-founded by national charity, 3Ts, following a donation of some €270,000 from patron Spar Ireland.

Shoppers in Mayo contributed directly to the establishment of the helpline through their purchases of Spar own-brand products, with a one cent contribution from a range of selected products donated to the 3Ts, along with the proceeds from other in store initiatives going to the organisation.

Spar has announced that it will continue its fundraising campaign across Spar own brand for the remainder of 2010 to ensure that further funds are generated to support this much needed community service.

3Ts Turn the Tide on Suicide is Spar Ireland’s nominated charity of the year for 2009 and 2010. The funds raised to date have contributed directly to the setting up of the 1Life 24/7 suicide prevention helpline (freephone 1-800-24-7-100 ) which is staffed by professional counsellors and highly skilled volunteers and was established jointly by the 3Ts and partner suicide prevention charity Console.
