Ballina man drove while disqualified

A Ballina man who drove while disqualified was further disqualified from driving for six years as he appeared before Ballina District Court on Tuesday.

Patrick Hardy, 59 The Glebe, Ballina was observed driving by Detective Garda Sinead Caheny on September 8 2009 in Abbey Street at 8.40pm. The defendant had no insurance or driving licence and he was disqualified from driving for two years.

John Gordon, solicitor for Hardy, said that the defendant bought the car to do up and sell and as he drove the car to a garage to get it washed he was observed by Garda Caheny.

Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined the unemployed man €1,000 for driving while disqualified and disqualified him from driving for six years. For not having insurance the defendant was convicted and fined €500 and disqualified from driving for one year concurrent. For not having a driving licence he was convicted and fined €100.
