Balla Mart report

On Saturday Balla Mart held its usual cattle sale. There were 1,200 cattle on offer, sold in three rings. There was a good trade for quality lots and on average prices held their own on last week, with local and midland farmers plus Northern buyers attending.

Bullocks averaged from €131.78 to €146.15p/100kg while heifers averaged from €143.25 to €148.28.

There were 185 cows on offer and one good pair made €1,270.

On Tuesday Balla Mart held its usual weanling sale. There were 900 weanlings on offer. Quality weanlings were a very good trade, with exporters and some local farmers buying.

Bull weanlings averaged from €150.85 to €173.48p/100kg while heifers averaged from €130.67 to €154.63.

There were some excellent prices paid, for example a CHX bull 285kg made €805, ie, €2.82p/kg.
