Balla mart report

On Saturday October 17 Balla Mart held its usual cattle sale. There were 1,100 cattle on offer sold in three rings. There was a good trade and on average prices were similar to last week with more farmers buying.

Bullocks averaged from €134.91 to €152.72 p/100kg while heifers averaged from €152.95 to €157.78.

There were some excellent prices paid, for example a LM bullock 440kg made €945 ie: 2.14 p/kg and a BBX heifer 475kg at €1,080 ie 2.27 p/kg going for export.

There were 129 cows on offer and one good AA springer made €1,200.

On Tuesday October 13 there were 750 weanlings on offer. Quality weanlings were a very good trade with exporters and some local farmers buying. Bull weanlings averaged from €157.17 to €196.91 p/100kg while heifers averaged from €146.70 to €159.01.

There was some excellent prices paid, for example a BBX bull 395kg made €1,470, ie, 3.72 p/kg and a BBX 465kg bull made €1,560; that’s 3.35 p/kg.

Saturday October 24 will be the next sale and on Tuesday October 27 Balla Mart will be having a special weanling sale - a day sale starting at 11am.
