Election results provide ideal opportunity to correct registers
Mayo Advertiser, June 12, 2009.
The Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council has proposed that copies of the Marked Register should be sent to each elected councillor in order to update the Register of Electors in Co Mayo.
Cllr Joe Mellett says that the registers show the names of not only those who voted but also the names of those people who did not cast a vote. “Perhaps the people have left the area or may have been on holiday,” Cllr Mellett said. He suggests that all of these people should be written to and in the event of no reply, they should be removed from the register. The ensuing result would be a more accurate record.
