Photographic awards exhibition in Eyre Square

The Irish National Photographic Awards exhibition returned to Galway city last month and will be there until next Monday August 11.

The exhibition, organised by the Irish Professional Photographers Association and sponsored by Royal & Sun Alliance, is in the Eyre Square Centre and showcases a multitude of talented photographers.

Neil Warner, a national and international award-winning Galway photographer, officially opened the exhibition on Thursday July 17. Neil, of Warner Corporate Photography, is just one of many photographers whose pictures are on display at the photographic awards exhibition.

The annual awards cover a variety of categories, including best avant-garde portrait, best press and PR portfolio, and best newcomer award. The pictures feature crying babies, laughing brides, wondrous landscapes, intriguing portraits, and exciting advertising images.

Neil hit the headlines a few years ago when he survived a helicopter crash off the west coast of Ireland and fully submerged in Killary Harbour. He is one of only 13 masters in Europe, Irish architectural photographer of the year, and joint winner of the International Towergate award for fine art photography 2008.

There is a display of photographs at the exhibition from photographers in almost every county in Ireland. The Irish Professional Photographers Association (IPPA ), was founded in 1949, and has been serving the interests of professional photographers and dedicating itself to the improvement of their standards in Ireland for over half a century.
