Body found in Merlin Woods during search for missing woman Mags Berry

The body of a woman was found in Merlin Woods yesterday afternoon during a search for missing woman Mags Berry. Friends had been frantically searching for Ms Berry since her disappearance last week. The 35-year old left Grattan Court in Salthill at 4pm on Wednesday February 3 and travelled to Renmore, but had not been seen since.

Numerous images of the Galway woman were shared on social media this week and ‘Have you seen Mags?’ posters were widely circulated around town. Her friends had also made a heartfelt appeal for the missing woman to get in touch to let them know she was safe.

It is believed that Mags met someone she knew in the Ballybane area at about 5pm last Wednesday. The last tracing of her mobile phone was at 6pm. Daily searches were carried out by friends and these searches were concentrating on the east side of the city.

At around 3pm yesterday afternoon (Wednesday ), Gardai confirmed that the body of a female was found by the Galway Dog Traing search team in Merlin Woods. Gardai immediately sealed off the scene for forensic a forensic examination. The body was later formally identified as that of Mags Berry. Gardai confirmed there was no suspicious circumstances surrounding the discovery.
