All 39 seats have now been filled on Galway County Council, with 12 Independent councillors, 12 Fianna Fail, 12 Fine Gael, and three from Sinn Fein.

The last three seats have been filled in Tuam with Donagh Mark Killilea (FF ), Peter Keaveney (FG ) and Shaun Cunniffe (Ind ) elected in the 11th count.

The 11th count is under way in Tuam with four candidates vying for the remaining three seats on Galway County Council. Nora Fahy (FF ) was excluded in the 10th count and her votes are now being distributed.

Larry Bane (FG ) has been eliminated in the ninth count in Tuam. His surplus is now being distributed.

Karey McHugh (Ind ) has been elected on the eighth count in Tuam. Mary Hoade's surplus of 24 votes are now being distributed.

The final count in Connemara has seen Seamus Walsh (FF ), Tomas O Curraoin (Ind ), Tom Healy (SF ) and Noel Thomas (FF ) elected without reaching the quota.

Maeve O'Brien (SF ) has been eliminated on the seventh count in Tuam. Her surplus is now being distributed.

Loughrea has a full complement of councillors with Michael Fahy (FF ), Joe Byrne (FG ) and Shane Donnellan (FF ) elected in the eighth and final count. Bridie Willers (FG ) has lost her seat.

Eileen Mannion (FG ) has been elected on the 12th count in Connemara. Her surplus is now being distributed.

The sixth count in Tuam has seen the elimination of Teresa Killeen-Kelly (Ind ). Her votes are now being distributed.

TP Niland has been excluded in the fifth count in Tuam. His votes are now being distributed.

Niamh Byrne (FG ), Seosamh O Cualain (Ind ) and Sean O Tuarisg (FF ) have been elected on the 11th count in Connemara. Josie Conneely has been eliminated and the distribution of his vote, which is under way, will decide the remaining five seats in the area.

Pat Hynes (Ind ) and Jimmy McClearn have been re-elected in the seventh count in Loughrea. Hynes' surplus is now being distributed.

The fourth count in Tuam has been announced and there are four seats left to be filled in the area. No elections in this count; however Peter Keaveney has benefited from the transfers from Michael Fitzmaurice (Ind ) and is likely to do well in the next count, which sees the distribution of the surplus of his party colleague Tom McHugh.

The 11th count is under way in Connemara with 10 candidates now vying for the remaining eight seats in the area. The 10th count saw the elimination of Joe Curran (Lab ) and his votes are now being distributed.

We have lots more photos and information on our Facebook page, including the latest from the city council count (spoiler alert: counting has finished and we have a new Galway City Council ).

Eoghan Mac Cormaic (SF ) is out after the sixth count in Loughrea. His votes will now be distributed.

Cllr Tom McHugh has been re-elected on the third count in Tuam. Michael Fitzmaurice's surplus is  now being distributed.

We are up to the ninth count in Connemara with just one councillor elected so far. Mairin Mhic Lochlainn (SF ) has been eliminated and her votes will now be distributed.

With the fifth count results in for Loughrea, the next count will see the distribution of Anne Rabbitte's surplus.

The second count has been announced in Tuam. Peter Roche's surpluses are now being distributed.

Seosamh O Laoi (FG ) has been excluded in the eighth count in Connemara. His votes will now be distributed.

We have a final result from Athenry/Oranmore following the withdrawal of Cathal Moran's request for a recount. The elected councillors are Peter Feeney (FG ), Jim Cuddy (Ind ), Malachy Noone (FF ), James Charity (Ind ), Frank Kearney (FG ), Gabriel Cronnelly (SF ), and Martina Kinane (FF ).

Daithi O Cualain (Ind ) has been eliminated in the seventh count in Connemara. His votes will now be distributed.

The sixth count in Connemara has seen the elimination of Independent candidate Padraic A'Tailliur O Chonghaile. His votes are now being distributed.

Seats are now filling up fast with Michael 'Mogie' Maher (FG ) and Anne Rabbitte (FF ) elected in the fourth count in Loughrea.

An exciting first count in Tuam has seen four of the nine seats filled - poll-topper Sean Canney (Ind ), Peter Roche (FG ), Michael FItzmaurice (Ind ) and Mary Hoade (FF ) have been elected. Canney's surplus is now being distributed.

MacDara Hosty (FF ) has been eliminated in the fifth count in Connemara. His votes are now being distributed.

The fourth count in Connemara has seen the elimination of Independent candidate Ronan Garvey. His votes will now be distributed.

Election counts are traditionally a lengthy process and the Galway County Council count is no different. After a late night and an early morning, we reckon Cllr Malachy Noone has the right idea.

The third count in Loughrea has returned a councillor and ousted another mayor - Gerry Finnerty (FF ) has been re-elected while James Regan, the outgoing Mayor of Loughrea, has been excluded. Regan was a long-time member of Loughrea Town Council, which is to be abolished along with the country's other town councils.

Mary McHugh (Ind ) is out after the third count in Connemara.

Chris Walsh (Ind ) and Liam Allen (Ind ) have been excluded following the second count in Connemara. Their votes are now being distributed.

James Charity's supporters were out in force to welcome him home after his election last night.

The second day of counting is now under way at the Bailey Allen Hall in NUI Galway. Counting went on into the night and a recount has been called in the Athenry/Oranmore electoral area.

The 12th count, which was announced in the early hours of this morning, saw Gabriel Cronnelly (SF ) and Martina Kinane (FF ) on the verge of being elected. However Cathal Moran, who was just 19 votes short of securing a seat, has called for a recount, which will take place from noon.

Frank Kearney (FG ) was also elected in the 10th count in Athenry/Oranmore overnight.

Meanwhile the second count has just been announced in Loughrea. The first count saw Adrian Feeney (Ind ) excluded, and Dessie O'Brien (Lab ) is out of the race after the second count. O'Brien's votes are now being distributed.
