Public meeting on controversial Galway Bay fish farm

A public meeting on the proposed Galway Bay Salmon Fish Farm, featuring speakers from both sides of the argument, takes place this evening at 8pm in the Westwood Hotel.

The meeting will be addressed by spokespeople from both BIM and No Salmon Farms at Sea. It is organised by Sinn Féin.

The party’s Galway Senator Trevor Ó Clochartaigh said debate and understanding of the “many complex issues involved” was crucial.

“I am very aware this is a contentious issue that requires serious discussion and analysis,” he said. “We must weigh up the social, legal, and ecological ramifications of this proposal and ensure cross community engagement.”

Sen Ó Clochartaigh has also raised the issue with the Sinn Féin leadership and it will be discussed at the party’s next Ard Comhairle meeting.
