Women’s history lecture tonight

The lives of Irish women a century ago will be the subject of a discussion featuring leading historians at the Galway Mechanics Institute, Middle St, on this evening at 8pm.

The discussion is entitled, Women at home, at work, and in the public sphere, 1911-14. The contributing historians are Caitriona Clear, Mary Clancy, Niamh Puirseil, and Sarah-Anne Buckley. It will be chaired by Caitriona Crowe of the National Archives.

The historians will discuss the women's suffrage movement, the Irish Women Workers Union, and the everyday lives of women in Galway and Ireland in the early 20th century.

The event is third in a series of History Ireland ‘Hedgeschools’ focusing on aspects of the ‘decade of centenaries’. The event is supported by the Community Knowledge Initiative at NUI Galway.
