All about mums

This week is dedicated to all things mummy. With Mother’s Day approaching this Sunday, March 10, I have been doing some research to help you find your mother the perfect gift. I always find it impossible to find something for my mum, as the unfortunate thing is, she is a dedicated follower of fashion (you now know where I get it from), so, similar to her daughter, her tastes are particular, and she already has quite the selection of clothes in her wardrobe from working in retail. That said, she is usually very good at hinting to my sister and me as to what she is lacking, and would like for Mothering Sunday. If you need some inspiration this week, I hope these ideas will give you a helping hand.

An old fashion bouquet

I love flowers, and if I can hazard a guess, most women do. Without taking the easy way out and popping to the petrol station for the last minute bouquet on the way to Sunday lunch, take some time to make up one you know she will like. I recently came across a wonderful new florist, Joeanna Caffrey, who makes the most beautiful arrangements. Her limited edition blossoming tea-party bouquets start at €55 and are the ultimate treat for your mum. Check out her website for information and delivery rates, joeannacaffrey.ie

Something indulgent

A piece of jewellery is always a beautiful gift to receive. Dublin-based jewellery boutique Loulerie has an excellent website (loulerie.ie) allowing you real time access to buy any piece stocked in the store. There are plenty to choose from but I always think a necklace or bracelet is best when buying for someone else, and try to stick to a simple design. I really love this tassel necklace by Ben Amun (€314), which is an investment piece but long lasting.

Something homely

Giving something as a gift for a home can be a bit tricky; so if you want to stay away from clothes or jewellery, what about a rug or throw? Foxford is renowned for its wool, and a throw from the current collection is a very thoughtful gift. I have some friends who are new mums, and something personal like this would be perfect for mum and baby. Prices start at €75 and for stockists, check out foxfordwoollenmils.com

And if your mum is a fashionista...

Well then clothes are the only option! If you are brave enough to buy your mum a great piece to add to her wardrobe, make sure you know her style and the pieces she wears the most. My advice is to give your mum a hint that her present will be wearable, and see if she gives you any hints. I know my mum loves to wear dresses, and this blue piece from See by Chloe at Brown Thomas is right up her street (€315). To be on the safe side, always ask for a gift receipt. Also consider some accessories, such as a scarf. They are versatile enough to wear with everything your mum may have, and you can select one in her favourite colour.

Happy Mother’s Day!
