Boston’s goal blitz seals Galway interfirms title

BOSTON SCIENTIFIC 5-08

ELECTRICAl CONCEPTS (Oughterard ) 3-07

Boston Scientific footballers won the Galway Interfirms Junior Football Championship with seven points to spare over Oughterard’s Electrical Concepts.

In an entertaining encounter in Corofin, both sides enjoyed periods of dominance, but crucially Boston held firm in the final quarter to clinch a place in the Connacht semi-final.

Boston also started the brighter. After an opening point from Donal De Barra, Boston stuck two goals in a three minute spell to build up a commanding lead. Phelim O Donnell and Danny Tuck were the scorers as Boston were dominating all sectors.

However the pendulum swung west. With John Donnellan pulling the strings around the centre, Electrical Concepts began to dictate the pace of the match. Goals from John Lawless (18th minute ) and Conrad Keogh (22nd minute ) had the sides level with six minutes remaining in the half.

Converted frees from John Donnellan left the Oughterard side two up approaching half time before Kieran Comer replied for the winners to leave the minimum between the sides at the interval - Boston Scientific 2-03 Electrical Concepts 3-07

John Donnellan, with his fifth point, stretched Electrical Concepts’ advantage before two Mark Casey frees had the sides level six minutes into the second half.

The match was decided in the next five minutes when Boston scored three goals. A speculative effort from John Kelly deceived Ian Thornton in the Oughterard goal before two quick-fire efforts from Mark Casey, both at the end of fine passing movements, left the winners in a commanding position once more.

Electrical Concepts showed their battling qualities and refused to surrender. An Enda Concannon goal followed by two John Donnellan points reduced the margin to four with 12 minutes remaining.

However Boston finished out the contest with points from Kieran Comer, Danny Tuck and Phelim O Donnell to record a fine victory.

Boston now plays Hollister (Ballina ) in the Connacht semi final.
