Canadian dune expert to lead field trip at Grattan Beach this morning

As part of the Visiting Fellowship Programme at NUI Galway’s Institute for Business, Social Sciences and Public Policy, Professor Ian Walker, a leading expert on coastal dune dynamics from the University of Victoria in Canada, will lead a field trip at Grattan Beach at 11am today (Thursday August 23 )

The focus of the field trip will be on how natural processes shape our beaches and the role seaweed has to play in building beach-dune systems.

Dr Walker will give his views from experiences on the Canadian coast. All those interested in issues of beach use and management are welcome.

The field trip will be followed by a seminar at 2pm in CA110, Cairnes Building at the University. The event is part of the celebration of 50 years of geography at NUI Galway.
