Meeting on archaeological excavations in Claregalway

A public meeting discussing the most recent archaeological finds in the Claregalway area will take place in the Harbour Hotel, Dock Road, on Monday at 7.30pm.

The lecture, entitled Recent Excavations at Claregalway, will be given by Brian Mac Domhnaill, survey manager for Rubicon Heritage Services Ltd.

The talk will present the preliminary results of an archaeological excavation undertaken at Claregalway on behalf of the Office of Public Works and the Galway County Council. The works were undertaken in advance of flood relief works on the River Clare.

Finds included worked bone, glass, ceramic roof and floor tile, pottery, and a range of metal and stone artefacts. Mr Mac Domhnaill will outline the excavation process and how ongoing specialist input and scientific dating have contributed to post-excavation analysis and reporting.

The meeting is organised by the Galway Archaeological and Historical Society. The lecture will be 30 minutes and will be followed by the GAHS AGM. All are welcome. See also www.gahs.info
