Martin Divilly’s sizzling meats add zest to The Apprentice

Monday night saw TV3 bring the successful TV show The Apprentice to the streets of Galway. Sponsored by Bank of Ireland, the candidates had to choose two local businesses to sell and promote their local produce. Team Zest went with the two businesses they felt would produce the most sales on the day - Martin Divilly’s butchers of Westside and Goya’s café and bakery of Kirwan’s Lane.

Team member Eugene of Team Zest was soon to spot that the key marketing tool of Divilly’s was their cooking stand. Ideally situated on the steps of Bank of Ireland in Eyre Square, the delicious aroma of their homemade sausages and burgers soon drew in the crowds. Following a successful day’s sales, Team Zest went on to beat Team Spirit by, as Bill Cullen put it a “full 100 per cent”. Jackie Lavin of The Apprentice was quick to state the point of difference between the two teams “They had obviously no event. We had the fantastic sizzle of the burgers outside the Bank in Galway’. With their choices of successful local businesses, Bill Cullen told Team Zest they had ‘nailed this task’.

No stranger to being part of a winning team, Martin Divilly was delighted with the overall result. “It was an excellent opportunity to showcase local Galway businesses using locally sourced produce. All the beef and pork used on the day came from our local Loughrea producer Tony Fahy.

“The sausages and burgers are homemade instore and all our beef is dry-aged the traditional way.’ Having won everything from Butcher of the Year to The National Retail Store of the Year, there is no danger of Martin Divilly hearing the words – ‘You’re Fired’ any time in the future!
